Abstract:
INTRODUCTION & OBJECTIVES: Arshas are one of the most common diseases occurring in ano-rectal region. Susruta mentioned Arshas in the Ashta Mahagad. Out of many types of arshas that raktarsh are those arshas couses excessive bleeding after/with defecation. So there is a need to evaluate the raktastambhan property of the eraka churna to control bleeding in raktarsha management. MATERIAL & METHODS: 30 patients were selected on the basis of classical symptoms of Raktarshas. The Eraka Churna was selected for patients after proper evaluation. The signs and symptoms like pain associated with defecation, bleeding per rectum, constipation, straining period were assessed before and after the treatment. RESULTS: The symptoms of bleeding per rectum was completely relieved in all patients during second week after treatment. Others like pain associated with defecation, constipation, size of pile mass, colour of pile mass and tonicity of anal sphincter were completely reduced in all patients with in the period of 30 days. No recurrence was found of bleeding from piles in all patients after 3 month of follow up. Abstract ... Effect of Eraka Churna in the management of raktarshas DISCUSSION: Bhesaja, Sastra, Kshara and Agni Karma are the main four treatment modalities indicated for Arshas in Ayurvedic literature. So the Eraka Churna was selected for the treatment of bleeding in Raktarsha. About all results got from observation in this study discussed. CONCLUSION: One of the main clinical symptoms of raktarshas is bleeding per rectum. The main advantage of this study was the complete relief in the symptom of bleeding per rectum. Overall all signs & symptoms were completely relieved in most of patients with in a period of 15 days after the treatment. Hence this can be considered as a better treatment in the management of Raktarsh.
