dc.description.abstract INTRODUCTION: The problem of wound healing has been dealt with at various levels by mankind ever since the advent of humanity, because the frequency of the injury is common and infections acquired through wounds might lead to death. In spite of brilliant advances in surgical field, development of various technologies and methods, the management of wounds still remain a subject of speculation. The prime motto of a surgeon is better wound healing with minimal scar and controlling the Pain. AIM AND OBJECTIVES: AIM: To study efficacy of Kala Malham in the management of Dusta Vrana. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the wound healing property of Kala Malham. METHODOLOGY: Application of the Lepa (Malham) yogas for Shodhana and Ropana of Dushta Vrana is one among the 60 upakramas of Vrana. Application of Betadine ointment & Kala Malham for Shodhana and Ropana of Dushta Vrana was selected for the present study. ABSTRACT It is a single blind clinical study; where in 30 patients were selected for the study from P.I.A Vadodara, and divided into two groups of 15 patients each. Control group patients were treated with Betadine ointment & Trial group patients were treated with Kala Malham application. (IEC No: PU/PIA/IECHR/2019/37) and this study is registered in Clinical Trial Registry of India. (C.T.R.I. No. CTRI/ 2019/10/021707). OBSERVATIONS & RESULTS: Results were assessed on comparative studies of features of BT and AT along with every follow-up, proforma, designed especially for this study. The results obtained were statistically analyses in terms of subjective and objective criteria decided in all types of Dusta Vranas. The results observed in trial group(B) is more significant than control group(A). CONCLUSION In Control Group: Treated with Betadine ointment. Among subjective criteria’s, burning sensation itching were reduced markedly, pain reduced considerably & smell reduced slightly. Among objective, Discharge, slough, granulation tissue, color, reduced significantly, whereas size of ulcer reduced slightly. In this group ulcer healed completely in 8 patients & remaining 7 patients had remarkable improvement. In Trial Group: The treatment with Kala Malham showed a property of faster Shodhana and Ropana effect in Dushta Vrana. Among subjective criteria’s pain, burning, itching sensation & smell are reduced significantly. Among objective criteria’s Discharge, slough, granulation tissue, colour, and size of wound reduced significantly. In this group ulcer healed completely in 14 patients, 1 patient have marked improvement. en_US
