A CRITICAL STUDY OF UPAMAN [SIMILES] USED TO DISCRIBED STRUCTURAL ENTITISES OF THE BODY IN BRUHADTRAYEE

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Ayurved is the science of life and sharir is branch of ayurved which explains regarding structural and functional entities of the human body. The study of all consoled structures in the body are systematically done by our acharyas, explained and written their treatise on sharir beautifully by using different pramanas and complicated areas, they made it easy by giving simile of various natural objects and phenomena. There are four pramanas explained by acharyas, out of which upaman praman gives primary knowledge about similes of the objects. Enlightening the features of an unmanifested thing with the familiar or manifested thing based on the similarities is known as upaman praman. Acharyas described, there are many structures in the body which are unique size and shape. To convey their knowledge of such unique structures of the body, acharyas have used upaman praman. Further relevancy of upama (simile) used to describe the body parts are needed to be studied. Aim & objectives: Aim ABSTRACT • Critical study of Upama (simile) for description of unclear concept. • To study of relevancy of Sharir Upama. • To compile such example of simile from various classics at one place and those to critically analyzed as per the view of modern science. • Objective: • Relevancy of such examples in the light of modern science is to be studied • METHODOLOGY: • Collect all upama [similes] from the bruhadtryee. In catetegory of shabda, sparsha, rupa, rasa and gandha. • Refer dictionary for meaning of words use in upama. • Separate the structural upama from it. • All structural upama are compared with the modern anatomy. • Material and image are collected and appropriate thing is finalized for particular upama. • Discussed all these observation and explanation of all upama in chapter discussion and suitable conclusion were drawn. OBSERVATION & RESULT: It was observed that the there are total 426 upama in bruhadtrayee.there are total 208 structural upama in it. Charak samhita has 34 upama, sushrut samhita has 96 and asthang hriday has 81 upama. These study of upama are really easily understood and mostly its give clear information of structural entities. The structural upama prove their relevancy with compared modern anatomy directly and indirecty. CONCLUSION: • The studied about all structural upama are 208 of number in bruhadtrayee.there are the shushrut samhita has more structural upama than asthang hridaya and charak samhita. • The study of upama with modern lighting is proving the relevancy of sharir upama. • This study proves the scientific thinking of acharyas at that era without using of any technology and give very beautiful and easy explanation of all concept. • This study proves upaman praman is very useful and interesting tool for academic field for teacher and student for understanding of sharir upama and also other concept.
