dc.description The situation today exemplifies the remarkable unintended consequences, both positive and negative, on the economic, social, and environmental spheres of the complex system that is India. In order to contain the public health dimension of the crisis, a national lockdown was necessary; however, it led to unprecedented economic repercussions. Migrant labour has been forced to flee, leaving farms and construction sites empty. This has further led to social consequences—on the move, migrants are out of reach of existing systems of government service delivery. The pandemic exposed their extreme vulnerability, living on the margins, invisible to most. Social distancing can be effective, but not all of India has the privilege to do it. en_US
